Job summary

Katmai Government Services seeks a part-time Histology Technician to prepare and process tissue specimens for microscopic examination. You will embed tissue, section with microtome, and perform quality control while ensuring proper handling of reagents and waste.

The role requires knowledge of histochemical and immunohistochemical techniques, as well as HT-ASCP/HTL-ASCP certification and at least one year of recent histology experience. Safety and quality procedures are essential.

Qualifications

• Graduation from NAACLS/ABHES accredited histology training or ASCP-acceptable program.
• Must hold HT-ASCP/HTL-ASCP certification.
• At least 1 year histology experience in the last 3 years.
• Extensive knowledge of histochemical and immunohistochemical principles and quality control.

Responsibilities

• Load, operate, and manage reagents on automated tissue processors.
• Embed tissue in paraffin blocks.
• Cut 2-5 micron sections with microtome and prepare control tissue.
• Troubleshoot and correct equipment malfunctions and verify results.
• Perform quality control on equipment, reagents, and products; maintain records.
• Prepare specimens for transport to lab or mail out.
• Handle and dispose of biological waste properly.
• Maintain regular attendance; perform other duties as assigned.
