Job summary

Bon Secours Mercy Health at Springfield Regional Medical Center seeks a Histotechnician to prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination under supervision, ensuring priority handling and quality results.

The ideal candidate has a HS/GED and an Associate of Science; Histotechnician HT certification is preferred. Prior histology experience is a plus, with opportunity to work independently within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• High School Degree or GED is required.
• Associate of Science is required or preferred.
• Histotechnician HT certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs histological procedures including accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining
• Assists Pathologist in gross examination and frozen section procedures
• Reports accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care
• Documents problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions when needed
• Operates and maintains all histology area lab equipment
• Monitors inventory of supplies, equipment, and reagents used, and places orders for replacements as required
• Other duties as assigned
