Job summary

Mercy Health, serving Youngstown, Ohio, is seeking a Histotechnician - Pathology at St. Elizabeth Health Center to prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination. The role supports the Pathologist under supervision and requires meticulous, independent work within a team.

Qualifications include a High School Degree or GED, with an Associate of Science preferred. Histotechnician HT certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• 2 years Histology experience required
• BSM: Histology experience preferred, not required

Responsibilities

• Performs histological procedures including accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining
• Assists the Pathologist in the gross examination of surgical specimens and in frozen section procedures
• Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care
• Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions when needed
• Operates and maintains all histology area lab equipment in proper state of readiness, cleanliness, and sharpens and hone microtome knives
• Monitors inventory of supplies, equipment, and reagents used, and places orders for replacements as required
• Other duties as assigned
