Job summary

Hartford HealthCare is seeking a Histotechnician for Hartford Hospital's histology lab. You will prepare and process tissue specimens for examination by pathologists, performing fixation, embedding, microtomy and staining, including advanced techniques such as IHC and ISH.

NAACLS HT program accreditation or equivalent experience is required. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, 1 year of clinical histology, and HT certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency with HT program accreditation accepted for five years.
• 60 college credits in biology/chemistry or an associate degree with biology/chemistry.
• At least 1 year of clinical histology experience.
• HT Certification (ASCP or equivalent).
• Good English communication skills; professional demeanor.
• Familiarity with EPIC, SunQuest or CoPath preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process tissue samples for histologic examination.
• Perform fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy and staining (H&E and special stains).
• Utilize advanced techniques like immunohistochemistry and in-situ methods as needed.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure quality control in histology workflows.
• Provide excellent customer service and collaborate with the pathology team.

Education

High School diploma or equivalency

60 semester hours biology/chemistry OR associate degree

One year clinical histology experience

HT Certification

Effective English communication

EPIC/SunQuest/CoPath experience preferred
