Job summary

Hartford HealthCare is seeking a Histotechnician to prepare and process tissue samples for histologic examination by a pathologist. You will perform fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy and staining, escalating to advanced techniques as needed.

Requirements include NAACLS HT program or equivalent, with at least 1 year of clinical histology experience and HT certification (ASCP or equivalent) preferred. Strong English communication and professionalism are essential.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalency with NAACLS HT program.
• 60 semester hours biology/chemistry with required credits, or an associate degree with biology/chemistry plus one year clinical experience.
• HT Certification (ASCP equivalent) preferred or required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process tissue samples for routine and complex histologic techniques.
• Perform fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining (H&E and Special Stains).
• Execute advanced techniques: enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, cryotomy, immunofluorescence, tissue microarray.
• Communicate findings effectively and ensure quality control and documentation.

Job Description:

Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine and complex histologic techniques to be examined under a microscope by a pathologist. The histologic techniques include the following: fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining (H&E and Special Stains) of human tissue for evaluation. This includes complex histologic techniques such as enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, cryotomy, immunofluorescence, and tissue microarray.

• High School diploma or equivalency AND successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program.

o Unless currently working as a Histotechnician in an approved clinical laboratory or HT certified (ASCP or equivalent), the education received from a NAACLS accredited HT program is acceptable for a period of five years from the date of completion of that program.

OR

• 60 semester hours of academic credit from an accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), OR an associate degree from an accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry(must include credit hours in both), which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the associate degree AND one year of full time acceptable clinical experience

• At least 1 year of clinical histology experience
• HT Certification [ASCP equivalent]
• Effective communication of English language
• Proficiency in HHC Computer systems i.e. EPIC, SunQuest, CoPath preferred but not required
• Ability to provide excellent customer service skills and exhibit a professional attitude.
