Job summary

Labcorp is seeking a Histology Professional to join our team at Henry Ford Providence in Southfield, MI. The role requires processing tissue samples for microscopic examination and producing histopathology slides with immunohistochemistry capabilities.

The position involves a 5:00am–1:30pm shift, handling routine and special stains, and ensuring accurate test results while maintaining instrument performance and quality control in a high-volume laboratory environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical/Biological science or Medical Technology or CLIA-related field.
• Histology certification preferred (ASCP or equivalent).
• 1+ year histology experience; 6+ months Immunohistochemistry experience.
• Experience in a high-volume laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam.
• Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens.
• Section the embedded tissue using a microtome and mount the section on a microscope slide.
• Perform immunohistochemical tests on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections.
• Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures.
• Orient and embed surgical tissue specimens.
• Prepare stains and reagents for special procedures.
• Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
• Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments.
• Record equipment log data accurately and timely.
• Perform preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
• Adhere to laboratory quality control policies.
• Follow procedures for specimen handling, processing, analysis and reporting.
• Document problems that affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed

LabCorp is seeking a Histology Professional to join our team at Henry Ford Providence in Southfield, MI.

Work Schedule: Shift 1, Monday-Friday, 5:00am to 1:30pm

Job Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
• Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
• Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
• Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections
• Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
• Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
• Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
• Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care
• Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
• Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
• Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
• Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
• Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
• Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology

Preferred Qualifications

• Histology and/or ASCP certifications
• 1 years or more of experience in histology
• 6 months or more Immunohistochemistry experience
• 1 year or more of experience working in a high volume laboratory environment

Additional Job Standards

• In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirement
• Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment
• Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
• Ability to accurately read all labels and documents
• Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
• Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
