York Prep School is seeking an Upper and Middle School History Teacher for the 2025-2026 academic year. The teacher will be responsible for teaching up to four sections of history and taking on faculty duties as assigned. The History Teacher will report to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Humanities.

About the role

1. Teach up to four sections of history.
2. Develop curriculum that balances pre-writing and writing skills, speaking practice, and cultural studies with connections to social justice and identity.
3. Prepare stimulating and differentiated lessons, oversee research projects, develop and grade assessments, and analyze student needs and strengths.
4. Utilize Judith Hochman’s Writing Revolution as a foundation for writing instruction.
5. Use our Learning Management System, Canvas, to assign, grade, and track student progress.
6. Support diverse learners using best practices of special education strategies and multi-modal teaching, especially students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, and executive functioning disorders.
7. Assume faculty duties as assigned.
8. Participate in extracurricular activities through advising a club or team.
9. Adhere to Safeguarding Policies to ensure student safety and wellbeing.
10. Collaborate with learning specialists, families, wellness team, and administration to support student growth.
11. Maintain required work hours and be available for morning and afternoon Jump Start times (Monday – Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 1:40 p.m.).

• Knows best practices in teaching and learning, including educational technology and data use.
• Has experience with Judith Hochman’s Writing Revolution or is open to training.
• Possesses effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Can collaborate effectively.
• Understands culturally responsive pedagogy.
• Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Believes in the mission and safeguarding policies of York Prep School.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in education, history, English, or a related field.
• Master’s degree preferred.

Compensation: $65k - $85k annually.
