Job summary

A leading independent school in New York City is seeking an Upper and Middle School History Teacher for the 2025-2026 academic year. The teacher will be responsible for teaching history, developing curriculum, and supporting diverse learners. York Prep School is seeking a Upper and Middle School History Teacher for the 2025-2026 academic year. They willbe responsible for teaching up to foursections of history and take on faculty duties as assigned. The History Teacher will report to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Humanities.

About the role
Responsibilities:
·Teach up four sections of history
·Develop curriculum that includes a balance of pre-writing and writing skills, speaking practice, and cultural studies with connections to social justice and identity
·Prepare stimulating and differentiated lessons, overseeing research projects,developing and grading assessments, and identifying and analyzing student’s needs and strengths
·Utilize Judith Hochman’s Writing Revolution as foundation for writing instruction
·Utilize our Learning Management System, Canvas, to grade and give assignments and track student progress
·Prepare stimulating and differentiated lessons, overseeing research projects,developing and grading assessments, and identifying and analyzing student’s needs and strengths
·Utilize best practices of special education strategies and multi-modal teaching to support diverse learners, especially those with dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, and executive functioning disorders.
·Assume faculty duties as assigned
·Participate in the extracurricular life of the school through advising a club or team
·Adhere to all Safeguarding Policies and responsibilities in support of student safety and wellbeing
·Collaborate closely with learning specialists, families, wellness team, and school administration to support student growth
·Maintain required work hours and be available for morning and afternoon Jump Start times (Monday – Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 1:40 p.m. unless we have scheduled school meetings)

Who we are looking for
The History Teacher is an educator who:
·Has classroom history teaching experience working with adolescents
·Has a passion for working withmiddle and high school-aged students
·Has experience with differentiating instruction for diverse learners and helping them to reach their full potential
·Has knowledge of best practices in teaching and learning, including the use of educational technology and data to inform instruction
·Experience with Judith Hochman’s Writing Revolution or openness to receiving training
·Exercises effective communication and interpersonal skills
·Has the ability to collaborate effectively
·Understands culturally responsive pedagogy
·Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
·Believes in the mission, values, and safeguarding policies of York Prep School

Compensation:
$65k - $85k annually
