Job summary

BYU History Department is seeking a part-time History Office Manager (28 hours/week). You will mentor student office staff, provide operational support to faculty and students, manage department communications, and oversee events.

History Office Manager (part-time 28 hours/week)

Join the BYU History Department, where we draw on gospel principles and historical knowledge and skills to achieve understanding of diverse human experiences. As our Office Manager, you will guide and mentor student office staff, provide operational support to faculty and students, manage department communications, and oversee events for the department. This part‑time position provides a great opportunity to work closely with dedicated students, staff, and faculty to provide a fulfilling academic experience. We are excited to meet you!

What you'll do in this position:
  • Mentor student office staff, leading and motivating through engagement, coaching, team building, and employee development
  • Answer entry level questions, conduct annual audits of records and materials, and coordinate all department office needs
  • Prepare each semester/term's academic class schedule
  • Help coordinate visits for campus guests
  • Organize department events, including arrangement of logistics and oversight of event execution
  • Coordinate recruitment and student engagement events
  • Provide administrative support of student clubs
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop and implement outreach strategies and event marketing materials that will attract prospective students
  • Execute a comprehensive social media strategy, oversee creation and distribution of regular newsletter, manage department websites, and update public displays in department spaces.
What qualifies you for this role:
Required
  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • Bachelor's Degree or four years of office experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to keep confidential information
  • Public relations skills and ability to work with people with a variety of ages and backgrounds
  • Data entry skills and public relations skills
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in the Liberal Arts (History, English, Humanities, etc.) and 2 years of experience in an office setting
  • Supervisory experience
  • Familiarity with standard office software programs (MS Office) and university systems (Workday)
  • Knowledge and experience with Canva, Adobe Acrobat, and Photoshop
  • Familiarity with higher education
