Job summary

Richaven Architecture & Preservation, a small inclusive firm in the Seattle area, is seeking an Historic Designer 1-2. You will learn and perform under a Principal, handling historic and prehistoric preservation tasks, research, and design coordination for complex projects.

Local candidates in the Seattle area are strongly preferred; duties include documentation, reports, and site visits, with opportunities to contribute to preservation plans and compliance reviews.

Qualifications

  • Accredited professional Masters degree in Historic Preservation; or Architecture with Historic Preservation coursework.
  • 0–3 years of professional post-graduate experience; local candidates preferred.
  • Strong writing and research skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to convey information verbally and graphically; independent initiative.
  • Willingness to travel outside Seattle for site visits and meetings.
  • Pass a government background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts historic and prehistoric research for identification, documentation, analysis and treatment.
  • Research historical documents, photos, plans to build knowledge on structures and codes.
  • Prepare investigation reports, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Perform contract administration duties under various delivery methods.
  • Provide treatment recommendations for preservation design challenges.
  • Inventory and survey historic properties; prepare preservation plans and condition assessments.
  • Monitor project status and manage time within budgets.
  • Other duties as assigned by Principal.
