Job description

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Historic Preservation Architect to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in architectural design and team leadership with specialized experience in historic preservation, adaptive reuse, and contextual design.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preservation-Focused Project Leadership: Lead architectural projects with a focus on historic preservation and adaptive reuse, from concept through completion. Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources while maintaining historical integrity and contextual relevance.
  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with clients, preservation consultants, community groups, and internal teams to develop design strategies that honor historical significance and meet contemporary needs.
  • Documentation & Construction Administration: Lead the project team in producing detailed construction documents and specifications, including those required for preservation approvals and historic tax credits.
  • Historic Research & Site Analysis: Conduct research, condition assessments, and historical documentation to inform design decisions and ensure compliance with preservation standards.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure projects meet local, state, and federal preservation guidelines, including those set by the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
  • Mentorship & Studio Culture: Mentor junior staff in preservation practices and contribute to a collaborative, mission-driven studio environment.
Qualifications
  • Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch).
  • Licensed Architect.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in architectural practice, focused on historic preservation or adaptive reuse.
