Job summary

King County’s Historic Preservation Program (HPP) seeks a Preservation Planner to protect the region's historic built environment. You will review projects for impacts to historic resources and apply local, state, and federal regulations in a hybrid work setting.

You'll maintain the GIS-based inventories, lead preservation planning with interlocal cities, deliver trainings, and help expand outreach to engage communities in preservation.

Qualifications

  • Ability to research, analyze and interpret information related to historic built environment.
  • Experience applying federal, state, and local preservation regulations including Section 106 and SEPA.
  • Strong written reporting and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review projects for potential impacts to above-ground historic and cultural resources using maps and inventories.
  • Prepare written reports documenting historic characteristics and eligibility for local registers.
  • Maintain GIS-based historic resources inventory and share data with WISAARD.
  • Coordinate preservation planning with interlocal cities; develop trainings and outreach.
  • Lead strategic planning by integrating preservation priorities into county planning.
