Job summary

A leading gastroenterology practice in Katy, Texas, is seeking an Experienced Histopathology Technician to join their in-house pathology team. About Gastro Doxs

Gastro Doxs is a premier gastroenterology and hepatology practice serving Cypress and the greater Northwest Houston area. Our state‑of‑the‑art facility integrates clinical care with advanced diagnostic services, including our on‑site CLIA‑certified histopathology laboratory. We specialize in gastrointestinal and liver disorders, providing precision diagnostics that guide personalized care.

We are seeking a skilled and detail‑oriented Experienced Histopathology Technician to join our in‑house pathology team. The ideal candidate will have experience in GI tissue processing, special stains, and CLIA/CAP compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accession, label, and process GI and liver biopsy specimens according to laboratory SOPs.
  • Perform gross examination assistance, embedding, microtomy, and slide preparation.
  • Execute routine and special stains (H&E, PAS, Giemsa, Trichrome, Alcian Blue, Iron, etc.) with precision.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain all histology instruments (microtomes, embedding centers, stainers).
  • Maintain quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) records in compliance with CLIA, CAP, and OSHA standards.
  • Prepare and monitor reagent inventories, equipment logs, and maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure proper specimen identification and chain of custody for diagnostic accuracy.
  • Collaborate closely with pathologists, gastroenterologists, and the lab director to optimize workflow and turnaround times.
  • Participate in CLIA inspections, documentation reviews, and process improvements.
Qualifications
  • Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Histotechnology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related biological field.
  • Certification:
    • ASCP certification (HT or HTL) preferred; eligibility or equivalent experience considered.
    • Familiarity with CLIA and CAP requirements is strongly preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2 years in a histopathology or surgical pathology laboratory.
    • Prior experience in GI or hepatology specimen processing highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of tissue fixation, embedding, microtomy, and staining principles.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to maintain documentation accuracy.
  • Self‑motivated with strong communication and time management skills.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with digital pathology workflows or slide scanning systems.
  • Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) for accessioning and reporting.
  • Familiarity with IHC and molecular ancillary testing processes.
  • Knowledge of biosafety, reagent handling, and internal audits.
