Histology Technician at Gastro Health – Manassas, VA.

Gastro Health is seeking a per‑diem Histology Technician to join our team!

Duties you will be responsible for

• Preparation of reagents in the laboratory.
• Comply with all safety regulations.
• Routine handling of biohazards and/or chemically hazardous material.
• Special projects and other duties as assigned by manager.
• Ensure all correct clinical data/information is entered into the laboratory information system (i.e., order entry, patient demographics and/or results).
• Able to perform routine histology from accessioning to cover slipping.
• Preparation of material for staining, including cutting paraffin sections.
• Properly embed processed tissue.
• Cut and stain re‑cut slides, special stains, and esotaic test requested by pathologist.
• Maintain, troubleshoot and run complex automated equipment.
• Maintain lab reagents and supply inventory needed for daily staining procedures.
• QC and QA of adequate control material needed for tests within laboratory.
• Under the direction of the laboratory manager, the histotech will perform repetitive or routine duties working from written procedures.
• Routine work encompasses working with chemical/biohazardous material. All safety policies and practices are to be followed.

Minimum Requirements

• Must have an Associate’s or Bachelor of Science in biology or related field.
• HT or HTL certified by ASCP preferred.
• Must have 1+ year experience as a Histotech.
• Ability to establish work priorities and handle several tasks for maximum workstation efficiency.
• Must be able to interact with fellow coworkers. Internal and external client dealings require courtesy and tact.
• Must be alert and energetic with constant monitoring of workflow.
