Job summary

Gastro Health is seeking a Full-Time Histology Technician for our Kendall location. The team offers a collaborative environment with consistent hours and strong growth opportunities.

Primary duties include histology from accessioning to cover slipping, preparing materials for staining, embedding tissues, and data entry into the LIS. A BS/AS degree and ASCP HT/HTL certification are required, with prior histology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare reagents in the laboratory and comply with safety regulations.
• Routine handling of biohazards and chemically hazardous material.
• Perform routine histology from accessioning to cover slipping and prepare material for staining.
• Embed processed tissue, cut and stain re-cut slides and special stains as requested by pathologist.
• Maintain, troubleshoot and run complex automated equipment; manage reagents and supply inventory.
• Enter accurate clinical data into the laboratory information system and perform QC/QA.

Gastro Health is seeking a Full-Time Histology Technician to join our team in our Kendall location!

Duties you will be responsible for:

• Preparation of reagents in the laboratory.
• Comply with all safety regulations.
• Routine handling of biohazards and/or chemically hazardous material.
• Special projects and other duties as assigned by manager.
• Ensure all correct clinical data/information is entered into the laboratory information system (i.e., order entry, patient demographics and/or results).
• Able to perform routine histology from accessioning to cover slipping.
• Preparation of material for staining, including cutting paraffin sections.
• Properly embed processed tissue.
• Cut and stain re-cut slides, special stains, and esotaic test requested by pathologist.
• Maintain, troubleshoot and running of complex automated equipment.
• Maintenance lab reagents and supply inventory needed for daily staining procedures.
• QC and QA of adequate control material needed for tests within laboratory.
• Under the direction of the laboratory manager, the histotech will perform repetitive or routine duties working from written procedures.
• Routine work encompasses working with chemical/biohazardous material. All safety policies and practices are to be followed.

Minimum Requirements:

• Associates or Bachelor of Science in biology or related field required
• HT or HTL certified by ASCP (Required)
• Previous experience as a histology tech preferred
• The individual must have the ability to establish work priorities and to handle several tasks for maximum workstation efficiency
• Must be able to interact with fellow coworkers
• Internal and external client dealings require courtesy and tact
• Must be alert and energetic with constant monitoring of workflow
• Punctual, dependable, detail oriented
