Upon successful completion of the six-month training, the trainee advances to Histotechnologist I. The role emphasizes patient care, quality, and adherence to safety and confidentiality standards within a clinical laboratory environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Experience in a clinical laboratory, healthcare setting, or science-related environment preferred.
• EPIC experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop embedding and microtomy skills under supervision.
• Complete structured histology trainee orientation and competency training.
• Assist with routine H&E staining, coverslipping, and slide preparation.
• Learn tissue fixation and processing; assist with processing schedules and documentation.
• Assist with specimen receipt, labeling, and tracking while maintaining chain-of-custody.
• Observe and assist with special stains, immunohistochemistry, and related duties under supervision.
• Perform basic quality control and document corrective actions; submit for review before release.
• Maintain instruments, workstations, reagents, and storage areas; assist with cleaning and inventory.
