Job summary

Hartford HealthCare’s Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain, CT is seeking a Histotechnologist to prepare tissue specimens for microscopic evaluation by a pathologist. Responsibilities include fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy and staining (H&E and special stains).

Requirements: Bachelor's degree or NAACLS-accredited histology program, ASCP Histotechnologist certification or ASCP Histotechnician with 3–5 years’ experience.

  • ASCP Histotechnologist Certification or Histotechnician with 3–5 years experience.
  • Ability to comply with OSHA and regulatory requirements for a safe lab environment.
  • Adaptability to laboratory needs related to testing and scheduling.
  • Knowledge of pathology, management, education, and regulations impacting histotechnology.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process tissue specimens for microscopic evaluation by a pathologist.
  • Perform fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining (H&E and Special Stains).
  • Follow OSHA procedures and maintain a compliant, safe laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to meet testing and scheduling needs.

Qualifications
Job Description

Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine and complex histologic techniques to be examined under a microscope by a pathologist. The histologic techniques include the following: fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining (H&E and Special Stains) of human tissue for evaluation. This includes complex histologic techniques such as enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, cryotomy, immunofluorescence, and tissue microarray.

  • Bachelor's Degree OR successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnologist program.
  • ASCP Histotechnologist Certification Or, ASCP Histotechnician with 3-5 years relevant experience.
  • Ability to comply with OSHA and applicable regulatory requirements by following established procedures in order to maintain a safe laboratory environment and to meet accreditation standards.
  • Ability to be flexible as required to adapt to laboratory needs as related to testing and scheduling.
  • Knowledgeable in the areas of pathology, management, education, and regulations that impact the field of histotechnology.
