Job summary

Trinity Health Of New England's Saint Francis Hospital in Connecticut seeks a Senior Histotechnologist to prepare, process, embed, section, stain, and cover tissue specimens for microscopic examination by the Pathologist.

You will train staff, maintain quality standards, assist with new technologies, and ensure documentation, safety, and adherence to CLIA/CAP requirements in a fast-paced lab.

Qualifications

• BS degree with biology and chemistry coursework and NAACLS histotechnician program
• At least 5 years of experience as a Histotechnologist
• HTL ASCP certification; IHC (QIHC) by ASCP
• Experience in fixation, microtomy, processing, staining, IHC staining, IHC optimization and validation

Responsibilities

• Prepare, process, embed, section, stain, and coverslip tissue specimens for microscopic examination.
• Accession, label, and maintain documentation for all tissue samples and testing activities.
• Perform routine histology, special stains, and IHC procedures.
• Troubleshoot staining quality, instrumentation, and workflow issues; document corrective actions.
• Support validation and implementation of new histology and IHC technologies.
• Train and mentor staff and students while assisting with competency assessments.
• Maintain tissue banks, reagents, and laboratory supplies for testing.
• Adhere to QA, QC, safety, and regulatory standards including CLIA and CAP.
• Assist with development, review, and revision of departmental policies and procedures.
• Serve as a technical resource and contribute to a clean, organized, efficient lab environment.

Join our dedicated laboratory team as a Senior Histotechnologist, where your expertise plays a critical role in patient care. Working in a fast-paced laboratory environment, you'll apply your technical expertise, attention to detail, and knowledge of departmental procedures to support accurate diagnoses and outstanding patient care. In this highly skilled position, you will be responsible for the preparation of surgical and autopsy specimens for microscopic examination by the Pathologist, ensuring the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and efficiency. As a trusted laboratory professional, you will maintain a thorough working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures while contributing to the delivery of timely and accurate diagnostic information that supports exceptional patient outcomes.

What You Will Do

Minimum Requirements

• BS degree from accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both) AND successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnology program.
• Must have at least 5 years of experience as a Histotechnologist
• HTL ASCP required; Qualification in IHC (QIHC) by ASCP
• Must have experience in the following areas: Fixation, Microtomy, Processing, Staining, IHC staining, IHC optimization and validation.
