Job summary

Wayne UNC Health Care in North Carolina seeks a Histology Technologist to perform tissue processing, staining, and slide preparation under the supervision of a Pathologist.

Responsibilities include embedding, cutting, mounting, and staining; assisting in frozen sections and gross pathology; managing accessioning and labeling, and maintaining equipment according to procedures. Candidate should have a high school diploma and ASCP HT preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• HT (ASCP) certification preferred.
• Minimum 1 year histology experience under pathologist supervision.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine histology procedures to prepare slides for examination by Pathologists, including embedding, cutting, mounting, and staining.
• Assist or perform frozen section, touch preps and gross pathology examinations as needed.
• Help in the evaluation of new procedures as required.
• Perform computer accessioning and proper specimen labeling, ensuring specimen integrity.
• Disposes of specimens properly.
• Files blocks and slides appropriately.
• May instruct others in the procedures and methods used in the department and checks for understanding.
• Participates in activities to prepare the section for inspection by regulatory agencies.
• Maintains supplies at par levels.
• Operates HIS and LIS technology proficiently.
• Keeps lead or supervisor informed of problems and issues.
• Maintains a safe environment and follows universal precautions.
