Job summary

Roper St. Francis Healthcare is seeking a Histotechnologist to prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination by the Pathologist. The role emphasizes troubleshooting and understanding tissue identification chemistry and test selection.

Responsibilities include accessioning, processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and assisting the Pathologist with gross exams. Qualifications include a Bachelor's in Lab Science, Chemistry, or Biology; ASCP HT certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Lab Science, Chemistry, or Biology is required.
• BSMH/RSFH requires bachelor’s degree as of 4/21/25 for new hires at RSFH.
• HT Histotechnician certification is preferred but not required.
• One year histology or clinical lab experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Performs histological procedures: accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining.
• Assists Pathologist in gross exam and frozen sections.
• Reports results promptly to support patient care quality.
• Documents problems affecting test performance and performs corrective actions.
• Maintains histology lab equipment and sharpens microtome knives.
• Monitors supplies, equipment, and reagents inventory and orders replacements.
