Job summary

Paycom - ATS seeks a histology technologist to support diagnostic tissue evaluation in a clinical or stand-alone lab setting. You will accession specimens, process, embed, section, stain, mount, and perform specialized immunohistochemical techniques while maintaining instrument performance and safety.

Responsibilities include routine and special stains, quality control, and assisting in evaluating new procedures and equipment.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Detail oriented, professional attitude, and reliable.
• Ability to follow or provide proper communication with sufficient grammar and spelling to avoid mistakes or misinterpretations.
• Ability to learn computer operations (Outlook and LIS).

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of specialized, difficult, delicate and complex chemical, histopathological or immunologic procedures in identifying specific components.
• Specimen Collection/Triage: Receives, accepts and recognizes specimens with proper patient information.
• Tissue Processing: Implement procedures during processing and prepare tissue processor.
• Tissue Embedding: Ensure adequacy of processing and proper mold size; maintain specimen identification.
• Microtomy: Operate a microtome for optimum sectioning and proper slide selection.
• Routine Staining Procedures: Select stains and prepare solutions for H&E staining; assess staining quality.
• Mounting Procedure: Choose mounting medium for each stain.
• Special Stain Techniques: Use appropriate controls and stains for tissue constituents and pathogens.
• Immunohistochemical Techniques: Select controls and retrieval procedures for antibodies.
• Instrumentation: Maintain instruments and document performance.
• Reagent Preparation: Prepare reagents and maintain quality control records.
• General Safety: Adhere to OSHA regulations and universal precautions.
• Chemical Hygiene/Biohazard Procedures: Handle chemicals and biohazards safely within regulations.
• Assists in evaluating new procedures/equipment and conducts quality control.
• Grossing: manage grossing and nail processing of fixed specimens.
• Gross Exam: Maintain specimen IDs and proper cassettes.
• Gives attention to accuracy in tissue handling and labeling.
