Job summary

Five Star Nursing is seeking a skilled Histology Technician to join our pathology team. You will prepare tissue specimens, perform embedding, microtomy, freezing, and staining while ensuring quality and accuracy.

In this role, you will maintain LIS/EMR documentation, assist pathologists, manage supplies, and uphold safety standards in a hospital-like setting. Day shifts; competitive compensation and benefits offered.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Histotechnology or related field is required.
• Certification HT/HTL is preferred or achievable.
• Minimum 2 years of histology experience in hospital or clinical lab.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical, biopsy, and autopsy tissue specimens per protocols.
• Embed, microtomy, frozen sections, and routine/special staining.
• Maintain and troubleshoot histology equipment.

Job description

We are actively seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Histology Technician to become a vital part of our pathology team. In this role, you will be instrumental in preparing and processing tissue specimens to support accurate diagnoses and high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare surgical, biopsy, and autopsy tissue specimens in accordance with established laboratory protocols.
• Perform tissue embedding, microtomy, frozen sections, and both routine and special staining procedures.
• Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain histology laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Ensure the integrity of specimens through accurate labeling and thorough documentation throughout all testing phases.
• Conduct quality control procedures to maintain compliance with hospital, state, federal, and accreditation standards.
• Assist pathologists with tissue preparation and fulfill special procedural requests as needed.
• Manage inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents efficiently.
• Follow all safety, infection control, and hazardous material handling protocols.
• Participate in proficiency testing, competency assessments, and initiatives aimed at continuous quality improvement.
• Collaborate closely with pathologists, laboratory staff, physicians, and healthcare professionals to ensure seamless workflow and high standards of accuracy.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Associate degree in Histotechnology, Laboratory Science, or a related field.
• Certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL).
• Minimum of 2 years of histology experience, preferably within a hospital or high-volume clinical laboratory environment.
• Strong knowledge of tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and H&E staining, along with familiarity with special stains.
• Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic medical records.
• Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and a commitment to quality.

Shift & Schedule:

• Day shift, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM (two 8-hour shifts).
