Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks a Laboratory Histology Technician to perform routine and specialized histological procedures on patient specimens and to prepare slides for pathological diagnosis. You will assist the pathologist in gross dissection and postmortem examinations.

The role involves embedding, sectioning, labeling, staining, and operating histology instrumentation; you will support intraoperative consultations and may mentor students and new staff.

Qualifications

• HT(ASCP) certification or eligibility must be obtained within one year of hire.
• One year of clinical histology experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Embeds, sections, accurately labels and processes tissue sections to produce slides for pathologist review.
• Operates, calibrates, checks and maintains instrumentation and monitors quality control.
• Performs routine and special staining procedures.
• Assists Pathologist in intraoperative consultations and frozen sections.
• Maintains cleanliness of the work area and ensures adequate supplies.
• Might assist with collection of anatomic pathology specimens.
• Might mentor students and new employees.
