Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks a Histology Technician to perform routine and special histological procedures on patient specimens and prepare slides for pathological diagnosis. You will assist the pathologist in gross dissection and postmortem examinations.

Responsibilities include embedding, sectioning, labeling tissues, operating instrumentation, routine and special staining, and assisting in intraoperative consultations.

Qualifications

• HT (ASCP) eligible or HT (ASCP) eligible and must be obtained within one year of hire
• One year of clinical histology experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Embeds, sections, accurately labels and processes tissue sections to produce slides for pathologist review.
• Operates, calibrates, checks and maintains instrumentation and ensures quality clinical information.
• Performs routine and special staining procedures.
• Assists Pathologist in operation room with intraoperative consultations and frozen sections.
• Maintains cleanliness of the work area and ensures adequate supplies.
• May assist with collection of anatomic pathology specimens.
• Mentor to students and new employees in laboratory testing per WPAHS policies.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
