Job summary

WMCH Weirton Medical Center is seeking a Histotechnician to support the anatomical study unit by preparing specimens and producing microscopic slides for pathologists. The role emphasizes timely processing, adherence to SOPs, and quality control to ensure accurate results for patient care.

The position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and one year of histopathology experience, with a preference for an Associate degree and ASCP HT certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Associate degree in Histotechnology or related field preferred.
• HT Certification through ASCP preferred.
• One year of histopathology laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic procedures for specimen accessioning and processing to support patient care.
• Follows SOPs to produce accurate, reproducible results.
• Completes workload within established turnaround times and adjusts priorities as needed.
• Operates core laboratory equipment (cryostats, microtomes, slide stainers, pH meters, autoclave) per manual.
• Participates in training new staff in policies and procedures.
• Prepares tissue and produces microscopic slides using standard techniques.
• Maintains patient care considerations for all age groups per SOP.
• Records all work and quality control data accurately and legibly.
