Job summary

NorthShore University HealthSystem is seeking a Histology Technician for a per diem role at Evanston Hospital. The position requires proficiency in tissue processing, embedding, and microtomy, with exposure to special stains and cryotomy.

Flexible hours from early morning shifts, weekdays and rotating weekends, provide opportunities for growth within a large healthcare system. The ideal candidate has a laboratory science degree and histology training, plus ASCP certification or eligibility.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's in Laboratory Science with histology training.
• HT/HTL ASCP certification or eligibility.
• 1 year histology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Process tissues using Xpress microwave rapid tissue processor.
• Embed tissues manually or with automated embedder.
• Perform microtomy of paraffin embedded tissue blocks.
• Recuts of tissue blocks.
• Perform special stains.
• IF cryotomy of skin specimens.

Job description

Hourly Pay Range:

$29.03 - $43.55 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights:

• Position: Histology Technician - Per Diem
• Location: Evanston Hospital
• Status: Per Diem
• Hours: Monday-Friday, 5am-1:30pm, rotating weekends and holidays

What you will do:

• Processing tissues using Xpress microwave rapid tissue processor
• Embedding: Manual and Automated using Sakura Auto TEK embedder
• Microtomy of paraffin embedded tissue blocks both manual and auto embedded
• Recuts of tissue blocks
• Special Stains
• IF cryotomy of skin specimens

What you will need:

• Education: Associate's or Bachelor's in Laboratory Science and Histology routine training or Completed accredited Histology Technology program.
• Certification: HT/HTL Certificate (ASCP), equivalent or eligible.
• Experience: 1 year experience in Histology Laboratory preferred
• Unique or Preferred Skills: Ability to perform manual embedding and microtomy of paraffin embedded tissue blocks.
