Job summary

Endeavor Health's Evanston Hospital is seeking a Laboratory Assistant II - Per Diem to support laboratory operations. The role involves triage, accession, and processing of specimens, plus clerical tasks and data reporting in a fast-paced environment.

Hours are Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm with rotating weekends and holidays. The position offers per diem pay, opportunities for growth, and a strong focus on patient service and accurate results.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum one year laboratory experience.
• Basic computer skills and laboratory techniques preferred.
• Not certified; N/A certification.

Responsibilities

• Triage, accession, and process non-gynecologic, gynecologic, and FNA specimens.
• Assist with quality control to ensure instruments and reagents meet standards.
• Perform related clerical tasks and provide results data as required.
• Maintain a safe work environment and handle biohazardous materials per protocol.
• Participate in inventory and ordering management.
• Support patient satisfaction and staff courtesy; mentor new staff.
• Ensure quality and compliance through lab logs.

Hourly Pay Range:

$19.31 - $28.00 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights:

• Position: Laboratory Assistant II - Per Diem

• Location: Evanston Hospital

• Full Time/Part Time: Per Diem

• Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm, rotating weekends and holidays

What you will do:

• Triage, accession, and process non-gynecologic, gynecologic, and FNA specimen

• Assist with quality control processes and procedures to assure that instruments and reagents meet the required standard of performance

• Performs related clerical and service tasks such as answering phone inquiries from nursing staff and physicians and gives results data as required.

• Maintains a safe work environment by using required protective devices. Handles biohazardous materials and chemicals according to established protocol.

• Participate in inventory and ordering management.

• Actively promotes patient satisfaction and customer service values with all staff members. Treats patients with respect and care. Instructs and encourages coworkers to treat patients and hospital staff courteously. Enhances the laboratory image by reacting positively with all customers.
• Support new staff through training and mentorship.
• Ensure quality and compliance through completion and correction of laboratory logs.

What you will need:

• Education: Minimum Education Level: High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Certification: N/A

• Experience: at least one year of laboratory experience

• Unique or Preferred Skills: Basic computer skills, customer service, and laboratory techniques.
