Job summary

Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is seeking a Histology Technician to prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination and assist the pathologist. You will maintain tissue processors, perform special stains and decalcification, and operate automated slide and cassette printers.

The role requires an Associate degree in Histotechnology, NAACLS training, and proven experience in microtomy, staining, QA/QC, and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Requires an Associates degree in Histotechnology.
• NAACLS accredited Histotechnology training program or clinical histology rotation eligibility.
• Certification for HT (ASCP) preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Embed routine specimens with proper orientation and document QA issues.
• Perform microtomy on biopsy specimens at appropriate microns.
• Stain slides with hematoxylin and eosin (manual or automated) and ensure stain quality.
• Load/unload processors, follow processing time protocols and report problems.
• Perform slide and block matches for quality control and accuracy.
• Maintain and troubleshoot histology equipment and perform preventative maintenance.
