Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent or Graduate Certificate Histology.
• 1–2 years clinical or histology experience required.
• Must know basic histotechnique: fixation, decalcifications, processing, embedding, stains, frozen sections.
• Must be able to perform certain special stains (Oil Red O).
• Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and participates in continuing education.

Responsibilities

• Performs specimen collection, accessioning and logging routines.
• Assists pathologists with tissue grossing procedures.
• Processes, embeds, and sections tissues for slides.
• Performs preventive maintenance and quality-control procedures on microtomes and instruments.
• Observes health safety protocols and maintains a clean work area.
• Follows hospital and laboratory policies and safety practices.
