Job summary

Labcorp is seeking a Histology Professional to join our team at Henry Ford St John in Detroit, MI. Work Schedule: Shift 1, Monday - Friday, 6:30am to 3:00pm; Rotating weekends.

You will process tissue and body fluids for microscopic examination, prepare immunohistochemical slides, and ensure accurate results to support patient care. A chemistry/biology degree and histology experience are required; ASCP certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology.
• 1 year or more of experience in histology.
• Histology and/or ASCP certifications preferred.
• 1 year or more Immunohistochemistry experience and 1 year in a high volume laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam.
• Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens.
• Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide.
• Perform various immunohistochemical tests on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections.
• Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures.
• Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens.
• Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures.
• Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
• Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments.
• Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed.
• Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner.
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures; adhere to QC policies.
• Follow procedures for specimen handling, processing, analysis and reporting.
• Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions as needed.
