Job summary

Henry Ford Health in Detroit seeks a Histotechnologist to transform tissue specimens into microscopic preparations under general supervision. You will help physicians by processing samples, staining tissues, and preparing frozen sections as part of a clinical pathology team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological science, medical technology or clinical laboratory science with a NAACLS histotechnician/histotechnologist program.
  • Bachelor's degree with 1 year of histopathology experience in the US/Canada.
  • Bachelor's degree with HT(ASCP) certification and 6 months histopathology experience.
  • Bachelor's degree with 50-week U.S. military histotechnician training.
  • At least 1 year supervised training in histologic techniques for tissue staining and bone marrow processing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process tissue specimens for microscopic evaluation.
  • Prepare dyes and chemical solutions per established protocols.
  • Process frozen sections with skill and attention to detail.
  • Collaborate with physicians and laboratory teams to support accurate diagnoses.
  • Handle additional related duties to keep the lab running smoothly.
  • Follow established procedures under general supervision to ensure quality results.

Job Description

Shift: Days

Status: 40 hours per week

Ready to bring tissue samples to life? As a Histotechnologist, you'll work under general supervision to transform tissue specimens into microscopic masterpieces! Your detective work helps physicians uncover the secrets of how tissues and organs function, track disease progression, and make critical diagnoses. You'll mix up dyes and chemical solutions like a lab scientist, master the art of frozen section processing, and tackle whatever other exciting challenges come your way.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and process tissue specimens with precision and care for microscopic evaluation
  • Whip up dyes and chemical solutions following established protocols
  • Process frozen sections with skill and attention to detail
  • Collaborate with physicians and laboratory teams to support accurate diagnoses
  • Handle additional related duties as needed to keep the lab running smoothly
  • Follow established procedures while working under general supervision to ensure quality results
Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Completion of accredited bachelor's degree program in chemical, physical, biological science, medical technology or clinical laboratory science, and successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnologist program
    • OR Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university, AND 1 year of full time acceptable clinical experience in a histopathology laboratory or 1 year research experience in a histopathology laboratory in the U.S. or Canada
    • OR Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university, and HT(ASCP) certification, with 6 months full time acceptable clinical experience in a histopathology laboratory or 6 months full time research experience in a histopathology laboratory in the U.S. or Canada
    • OR Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of a 50-week U.S. military histotechnician training course.
  • At least one (1) year of supervised training in a clinical laboratory in histologic techniques to perform tissue staining procedures and the processing of bone marrow specimens preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a histotechnologist, preferred.
