Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Histology Lab Assistant to support the histology and surgical pathology lab with entry‑level processing and routine slide preparation. You will communicate with pathologists and coordinators regarding specimen issues and participate in the laboratory occurrence management program.

The role involves staining, attaching paperwork, labeling slides, and maintaining records to ensure timely turnaround and compliance with standard operating procedures.

Qualifications

• High School diploma is required.
• Familiarity with medical terminology.
• A.S. degree in biological/life sciences or medical lab tech is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides histology lab support using automation and manual methods to stain and coverslip microscopic slides.
• Reviews protocol files for Gross Only specimens and outstanding paperwork.
• Performs embedding procedures for routine surgical and autopsy tissues.
• Maintains records and documents discrepancies appropriately.
• Transports specimens, blocks, and slides as necessary.

Education

A.S. degree preferred
