Job summary

Cooper Norcross Health is seeking a Histology Laboratory Assistant to support the Anatomic Pathology department. The role involves specimen processing, documentation, slide and block management, and participation in pathology workflows to ensure efficient diagnostic services.

The position supports the team by handling grossing workstation tasks, specimen measurements, storage, and coordination of consultations with reference laboratories.

Qualifications

• Requires attention to detail and accurate specimen identification
• Experience with HIPAA and confidentiality requirements
• Ability to work in fast-paced environment with multitasking
• Knowledge of pathology workflows and specimen handling
• Experience with laboratory information systems preferred

Responsibilities

• Receives, verifies, prioritizes, and accessions surgical pathology specimens.
• Prepares grossing workstations, labels cassettes, and manages specimen storage and disposal.
• Assists with slide preparation, staining, and basic laboratory procedures under protocol.
• Coordinates specimen tracking, sendsouts, and maintains chain-of-custody documentation.
• Answers inquiries from physicians and healthcare facilities to support pathology services.
