Join to apply for the Histology Lab Technician role at UPMC.

UPMC Dermatology is hiring a full-time Histology Lab Technician to join their team in Wexford, PA. In this position, you will work Monday-Friday during daylight hours cutting and processing tissue for the Mohs Surgeon. Travel to another office at UPMC St. Margaret will be required 2-3 days/week during training and about 1 day/week after training.

Responsibilities:

1. Comply with all UPMC and departmental policies, procedures, and work practices.
2. Perform ancillary or miscellaneous tasks such as filing, cleaning, and stocking supplies.
3. Perform other duties and assignments as assigned by lab leadership.
4. Accurately prepare slides for microtomy using barcode labels to maintain correct patient identification.
5. Support the academic mission of the department.
6. Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols.
7. Perform QC checks at each phase of processing/staining.
8. Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining, and coverslipping, including specialized tissue protocols.
9. Ensure tissues are embedded and cut according to protocols with proper orientation, complete sections, and no artifacts.
10. Demonstrate knowledge of CoPath related to Histology workflow.
11. High school diploma required.
12. At least 1 year of clinical laboratory experience or training in a laboratory setting.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

• Histology Technician (HT) certification from ASCP preferred.
• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting (with renewal).
• Act 33 (with renewal).
• Act 34 (with renewal).
• Act 73 FBI Clearance (with renewal).
