Job summary

QualDerm Partners is seeking a Histology Technician to prepare tissue specimens for routine and special procedures used to support pathology diagnosis. The role entails receipt and accessioning of specimens, slide and cassette preparation, quality checks, and accurate documentation of cases.

You will handle slide staining, block matching, and ensure timely processing of urgent cases, while maintaining patient records and working with laboratory equipment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of lab design and operation.
• Minimum of two years of experience in a lab setting preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Detail oriented.
• Able to demonstrate independent judgment and initiative appropriately.
• Must be able to tolerate standing and walking for 8 hours per day.
• Proficiency in the operation of a computer keyboard (40 WPM minimum) and ability to work effectively with Microsoft Office Products.
• Ability to document patient records using proper grammar, spelling, and syntax.
• Must have full range of body motion with the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, stand, stoop, stretch, lift, and carry up to 20 pounds.
• Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone and medical equipment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare tissue specimens for routine and special procedures for pathologist confirmation.
• Assist with receipt of specimens and accessioning paraffin cases.
• Assist with printing cassettes, slides and slide labels.
• File slides and pull slides pertaining to prior cases.
• Perform quality assurance checks and verify slide and block match.
• Compile cases and ensure slides have correct patient requisition information.
• Ensure stat cases are seen by the pathologist with urgency.
• Examine and prepare histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination.
