Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking an Histology Lab Assistant (Full-Time Days) to support the histology and surgical pathology labs with entry-level processing tasks. You will interact with pathologists, residents, and coordinators to resolve specimen issues and participate in the laboratory occurrence management program.

Responsibilities include staining, coverslipping, embedding, block reconciliation, and maintaining accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• Computer experience with keyboard proficiency.
• Familiarity with medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Provides histology laboratory support using automation and manual methods to stain and coverslip microscopic slides.
• Reviews protocol files for Gross Only specimens and/or outstanding paperwork; monitors logs for routine H&E slides submission.
• Performs and documents basic embedding procedures for routine surgical and autopsy tissues.
• Maintains records and documents discrepancies per SOP.
• Transports specimens, blocks, and slides as necessary.
