Job summary

Haywood Regional Medical Center, part of Lifepoint Health, invites a Histology Assistant to join our 24/7 clinical laboratory team in Clyde, NC. This PRN, days position supports the preparation, staining, and filing of histology slides, ensuring accurate handling of specimens and timely delivery of results.

You will work alongside pathologists, technologists, and support staff in a facility recognized for quality and patient care.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; associate's or bachelor's preferred.
• Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of hire.
• Six months to one year medical experience, particularly in Histology or the laboratory, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive specimens from surgery promptly and log with required info.
• File surgical slides accurately and in a timely manner.
• Retrieve slides and blocks as needed by Pathologist.
• Stain and coverslip slides to yield high-quality slides.
• Maintain accurate cytology/cytology specimen records and pre-label cassettes.
• Observe safety procedures when handling patient specimens and reagents.
