Job summary

Sanford Burnham Prebys is seeking an Associate Scientist to advance patient-specific, cell-based models for neurological diseases using hiPSC. You will screen drugs, validate targets, and explore cellular mechanisms in a collaborative lab setting.

The role focuses on developing disease-relevant hiPSC models and implementing high-throughput screening to enable drug discovery, with opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Neurobiology or related field with 3 years of applied lab research.
• Experience in cell biology, stem cell biology, neurobiology or electrophysiology; neurodegenerative disease experience a plus.
• Experience with human iPSC preferred.

Responsibilities

• Designs and performs experiments with minimal supervision.
• Cultures human pluripotent stem cells and conducts assays across modalities (high content imaging, calcium imaging, MEA).
• Generates and analyzes data, presenting findings and suggesting next steps.
• Documents experiments in lab notebooks or electronic systems for reproducibility.
• Operates specialized lab equipment and troubleshoots routine issues.
• Reads literature to apply new insights to work.
• Assesses and resolves moderately complex problems.
• Presents work to supervisor and team meetings.
• Contributes to reports and manuscripts with increasing responsibility.
• Trains less experienced colleagues as needed.
• Maintains laboratory infrastructure and safety practices.
• Troubleshoots and proposes solutions.
