Job summary

Cumberland Hospital for Children and Adolescents in New Kent, Virginia, is seeking a Health Information Management Specialist to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and security of healthcare documentation. This is a temporary position requiring strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required, Associates or Bachelors Degree Preferred
• 1-3 years of relevant experience required; 3-5 years of relevant experience preferred
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required
• Must consistently exhibit mental and emotional ability to understand and perform the essential functions of the job

Responsibilities

• Ensure accurate and complete documentation to include organizing, analyzing, indexing, and maintaining medical records within required timeframes.
• Reporting and tracking of deficient documentation to assist a multidisciplinary team in maintaining compliance rates and ensuring documentation contains required elements.
• Review provider documentation at admission for accuracy and finalization to ensure signatures are obtained and documentation is on the medical record within the required timeframe.
• Compile multidisciplinary reports into formal treatment teams and correspond with identified external individuals/organizations for retrieval of completed reports.
• Compile multidisciplinary reports into formal discharge summary and ensure signatures are obtained within the required timeframe.
• Data entry.
• Sorting, filing, indexing loose paperwork.
• Processing release of information requests and maintaining consent forms to ensure HIPPA compliance throughout admission.
• Performs other duties as assigned/required by this position.
