Job summary

Duke Health is seeking a Health Information Management professional to independently handle specialized release of information tasks within the Health Information Management Department. You will navigate EMR systems, review authorizations, and ensure HIPAA compliance while coordinating with legal and clinical teams.

Responsibilities include tracking amendments, validating requests, and supporting court or regulatory disclosures.

Qualifications

High school diploma required; associate's degree in health information management or related field preferred.
Four years of experience in health care; HIM experience or relevant HIM education required per credential path.
Knowledge of HIPAA, privacy rules, and release of information processes essential.

Responsibilities

Process and review requests for medical records to identify dates, service, entity, and documents requested.
Verify authorizations and legal authority; review subpoenas and court orders for validity.
Coordinate with Health Plan Reviewers and Research Monitors for electronic records access and password management.
Maintain and update the Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) and support chart correction activities.
Provide guidance on patient identity management and resolution of overlays to ensure data integrity.
