Job summary

Guidehouse is seeking a senior-level coder with strong leadership for their Washington, DC area team. The role analyzes complex patient records to assign accurate codes and to educate staff on coding standards.

Required RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CPC credentials, 5+ years of experience in outpatient coding, and at least two years of leadership. Proficiency with EPIC, Cerner, and SMART is preferred. Competitive salary and benefits offered.

• Senior-level outpatient coding background including E/M, injections/infusions charging.
• Minimum 2 years of people leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist coders, documentation staff and Internal Revenue Integrity with complex cases and correct code assignment.
• Review medical records flagged by SMART for patterns of coding errors and education opportunities.
• Serve as a technical resource on coding standards for managers, physicians, administrative and external customers.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Job Family:General CodingTravel Required:NoneClearance Required:NoneWhat You Will Do:Assists coders, compliant documentation management staff, and the Internal Revenue Integrity team with complex patient care cases by analyzing documentation and discussing correct code assignment.Reviews medical records flagged through the SMART (Inpatient and Outpatient tools) software for patterns of coding errors and opportunities for coder and /or clinical education.Serves as a technical expert/resource for department manager, staff, physicians, administrative, and external customers to provide information or clarification accurate and ethical coding and documentation standards, guidelines and regulatory requirements.Performs other duties as assigned by management.What You Will Need:Requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience; (Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education or advanced degree).Currently certified as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC).A strong outpatient coding background at a senior level including coding of outpatient/inpatient charts, E/M charging, injection and infusions charging, as well as data management and coder audit and education experience.Must maintain credential throughout employment.A minimum of two years of people leadership experience is requiredWhat Would Be Nice to Have:Experience working in any of the following systems: EPIC, Cerner, Solventum, and PwC SMART.Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Medical Terminology#LI-DNIThe annual salary range for this position is $68,000.00-$113,000.00.
