Job description

HIM Director (RHIT- Registered Health Information Technician)

Full Time, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Responsibilities Include:

1. Ensuring patients' files are properly maintained and can be retrieved upon request or scheduled appointment.
2. Performing clerical tasks necessary for the proper maintenance of patients' medical records.
3. Carrying out correct reconciliation of all discharged records and ensuring necessary follow-up for missing documents.
4. Preparing, scanning, verifying, and indexing all patients' records within 24 to 48 hours of discharge.
5. Ensuring physicians properly sign, date, and complete patients' records before signing them off as duly completed.
6. Arranging records from the skilled nursing facility in proper order; setting up records for storage, logging them into the system, and putting them in storage containers.
7. Scanning and photocopying records.
8. Receiving and sending information through a fax machine.
9. Carrying out periodic medical record chart audits and reviews.
10. Taking telephone calls and providing answers to questions regarding patients' medical records.

This role will be the department head for HIM, assisting with all job duties related to the health information management team and managing HIM team members.

Certification: Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).

Experience: Preferred minimum of 2 years in the field of medical records, preferably in a long-term care setting.
