Job summary

Carrington West is seeking a Managing Quantity Surveyor – Highways to lead the commercial function on multiple highways schemes in Northampton and the surrounding region. The role involves mentoring a team of QS professionals and shaping commercial strategy from inception through final accounts.

You will bring proven senior QS experience in highways or civil engineering, NEC contract knowledge, and strong leadership to drive performance and client relationships.

Qualifications

  • Senior Quantity Surveying experience in highways or civil engineering.
  • Strong commercial and contractual knowledge (NEC).
  • Experience leading commercial teams across multiple projects.
  • Excellent leadership and people development skills.
  • Ability to manage risk, drive performance and influence key decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial function across several highways schemes from inception to final account.
  • Mentor and develop a team of Quantity Surveyors from trainee to senior level.
  • Prepare, review and present CVRs and project forecasts with strategic insight.
  • Identify and mitigate commercial risks and drive value engineering opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with internal commercial processes and best practice.
  • Advise on contractual matters and dispute resolution as the key commercial advisor.
  • Oversee procurement strategies and maintain strong supply chain relationships.
  • Build and manage client relationships and represent the business professionally.
  • Support continuous improvement across commercial systems and processes.

Salary and benefits
  • £85,000 - £90,000 per annum (salary dependent on experience)
