Job summary

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Highway & Traffic Department in Wall or Newark, NJ. You will contribute to highway and roadway projects from design through construction and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality results.

The ideal candidate holds a Civil Engineering degree, 4–8 years of highway design experience, and a New Jersey PE license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• 4–8 years of progressive highway/roadway design experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of New Jersey required.
• Experience working on county and/or municipal projects, including those that are state or federally funded.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation (OpenRoads experience a plus).
• Strong knowledge of AASHTO and NJDOT roadway design standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and oversee roadway and highway design plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Perform geometric design, grading, drainage coordination, and maintenance of traffic plans.
• Coordinate with internal disciplines including civil/site, traffic, structural, environmental, and utility teams.
• Assist in managing project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
• Serve as a technical resource for junior engineers and designers.
• Attend client meetings and coordinate with public agencies including state agencies, counties, and municipalities.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal design standards and procedures.
• Support proposal preparation and business development efforts as needed.
