Job summary

INDOT Waterloo Unit seeks a Highway Technician to perform routine highway maintenance, pothole filling, drainage upkeep, and snow operations. You’ll assist with traffic control during emergencies and support daily safety on Indiana roads.

This entry-level role offers mandatory overtime during emergencies, a starting pay around $20/hour (CDL may add $1) and a robust benefits package for State of Indiana employees.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL or obtain one within 90 days.
• Pass and submit to a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical activities (lifting, bending, standing, walking) for long periods.
• Must endure exposure to inclement weather.
• Ability to operate specialty traffic equipment (e.g. bucket trucks, painting equipment).

Responsibilities

• Comply with INDOT safety policies and procedures.
• Operate highway maintenance/traffic equipment to maintain and clean highways and rights-of-way.
• Move and load supplies and materials.
• Perform winter operations and snow removal.
• Assist with emergency response, traffic control, and sign/barricade placement.
• Conduct routine equipment maintenance and inspections.
