Job summary

The State of Indiana, through the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), is seeking a Highway Technician for the Aurora Unit. This entry-level role covers maintenance of Indiana highways, including snow operations, debris removal, and public safety.

Overtime is required for emergencies and winter operations. Candidates must obtain a CDL within 90 days, pass a pre-employment drug test, and be able to lift 50 pounds.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL or obtain one within 90 days.
• Pass and submit to a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical activities (lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, walking).
• May endure exposure to inclement weather.
• Operate specialty traffic equipment (bucket trucks, paint equipment, etc.).
• Follow directions and work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Comply with INDOT safety policies and procedures.
• Operate highway maintenance/traffic equipment to maintain and clean highways.
• Move and load supplies and materials.
• Perform winter operations including snow and ice removal.
• Respond to emergencies (traffic control, lane closures, signs, barricades).
• Perform inspections and routine equipment maintenance.
