Job summary

Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Ashboro Unit is seeking a Highway Technician to perform general highway maintenance and operate heavy equipment to keep Indiana roadways in good condition. The role includes snow and ice removal, inspections, and coordinating with contractors.

Applicants must hold a valid CDL or obtain one within 90 days, pass a drug test, and meet physical requirements such as lifting up to 50 pounds. CDL training is provided onsite by INDOT staff.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A or Class B CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days.
• Must pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Knowledge of federal/state/local highway guidelines, maintenance practices.
• Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical documents.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Operate highway maintenance and traffic equipment to repair and clean highways and rights-of-way.
• Comply with INDOT safety policies and procedures and report issues to supervisors.
• Coordinate with contractors to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
• Perform snow and ice removal and other winter maintenance duties.
• Perform regular inspections and routine equipment maintenance.
