By joining our Department of Highways, District 10, Menifee Maintenance Unit as a Highway Technician Assistant I in Menifee County; you’ll have the opportunity to operate basic automotive and power equipment including, but not limited to, bush hogs, chainsaws, chemical sprayers, chippers, jack hammers, mowing tractors, single axle trucks (dump, flatbed, pickup), snowplows, salt spreaders, broom sweepers and weed trimmers. Assists with beginning level engineering related duties.

Minimum Requirements SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Within 12 months of employment in this job classification, employees in this classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority with documentation that he or she holds a valid Class B commercial driver's license. Within one year of employment in this job classification, the employee must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and must possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Working Conditions Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area, and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather.
Probationary Period This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
