Who You Are

Versar Global Solutions is seeking full-time Highway Maintenance Technician I – Herbicide Applicator to perform maintenance support for local roadways and highways. Join our team and grow with us as we provide best in-class services that help clients solve their most complex challenges! This position requires commuting to the Ocoee, FL office.

What You’ll Do

• Applies herbicide and records application per FL Dept of Agriculture and FDOT standards.
• Oversees application of herbicide by other employees per the FL Dept of Agriculture standards
• Conduct thorough assessments of outdoor spaces to identify weed species and determine appropriate treatment methods.
• Implement integrated weed management techniques, including manual removal, chemical application, and preventive measures.
• Safely handle and apply herbicides in accordance with industry regulations and company policies.
• Operate and maintain equipment, such as sprayers and spreaders, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
• Performs landscape maintenance duties such as mowing, herbicide and fertilizer application, weed control, spring clean-up, fall clean-up, tree trimming, and pruning
• Cleans and grades ditches, stormwater drainage structures, highway road shoulders, slopes
• Performs general maintenance duties such as fence repair, sign repair and replacement, and litter and debris removal
• Repairs and replaces guardrail components and attenuators
• Performs concrete structural repair to sidewalks and bridges or overpasses
• Fills and patches asphalt pavement potholes and distresses
• Performs Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) / temporary traffic control
• Provides after-hours emergency incident response during scheduled on-call rotation
• Conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspections
• Performs preventative maintenance on company vehicles or equipment
• Operates a variety of mechanical equipment such as bed edgers, commercial mowers (z-turns and bush hogs), tractors, mini-excavators, skid steers, gators, blowers, dump trailers, chain saws, line trimmers, forklifts, and more
• Drives company trucks, towing trailers and rolling arrow boards if necessary
• Logs maintenance work-order information and checklists manually and electronically
• Loads and unloads equipment, supplies, tools, and material
• Uses all equipment safely
• Performs other duties as required
  
  

What You’ll Bring

• 18+ years of age
• Must possess and maintain an active and valid Florida driver's license without restrictions
• Previous experience in landscaping, pest control, or weed management
• Knowledge of common weed species, their characteristics, and effective control methods
• Familiarity with herbicides and their application techniques
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and carry up to 25 lbs. regularly
• Ability to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods of time
• Possess good oral and written communication skills
• Willingness to work multiple shifts and varying hours, including nights, weekends, and overtime
• Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
• Ability to work along local roadways, interstates, and or/highways with commuter traffic passing by at varying rates of speed
• Obtain MOT certificate (coursework and certification paid for by Versar)
• Must be proficient in English, both written and verbal, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
• Successful results of preemployment screenings, including federal background check, MVR, and drug screen.
• Comply with company drug and alcohol policy.
• Be authorized to work in the US or will be authorized by the successful candidate’s start date.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ year of experience working in roadway operations, construction, utilities, or landscaping
• Experience operating heavy equipment
• MOT Certified
• Agricultural Pesticide Applicator’s License
• Ability to drive manual transmission
• CDL A or B
  
  

Location Requirements

The position will primarily work onsite in Ocoee, FL.

Compensation

Expected Salary: $16 - $18 per hour
