Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a labor-intensive position involving clearing and cleaning of highway rights of way, litter removal, and operating power tools for sidewalk and road maintenance. Duties include flagging traffic, working in various weather conditions, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Requires a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and attainment of a Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Qualifications

• No minimum training or experience requirements for this classification.
• Requires valid motor vehicle operator's license and Class A CDL within 6 months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Assist in clearing and cleaning of highway right of way and outfall ditches, including cutting with chainsaws and other hand tools.
• Picks up litter and debris from highway right of way.
• Operates power tools, breaking out sidewalks, curb and gutter for driveway construction and other concrete and asphalt.
• Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow and protect workers and the public.
• Performs duties during inclement weather.
• May be required to work outside of normal schedule during emergencies or departmental-related events.
• Frequently exposed to outdoor conditions, noise, and oil/grease.
